About me: Fortuitous Bounce is from the 310 album Sixes and Sevens that was released in 2007. I wanted to include a track that Ralph Rolle played drums on, and this is one of my favorite performances of his with 310. The track also features Ali Shaheed Muhammad from A Tribe Called Quest on turntables and John Mulkerin on Trumpet. In 310 we have always created our own fusion of ambient soundscapes and atmospheric sounds with hip hop and trip hop style beats. Fortuitous Bounce ventured into a more jazz fusion sound than we had ever produced before in 310. It reflected our love of jazz fusion artists like Weather Report, Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis’ jazz funk fusion era. With the complexity of the track and odd time signatures I kept hearing my old friend Ralph Rolle’s drumming in my head and how he could bring a new life to it. And that he did, and he played on the rest of the album. Since 1997 310’s beat making had always been programmed drums in a hip-hop style, and this was the first time we used a live drummer. The Sixes and Sevens album was a great transformation album for us when Ralph took our music to another level. https://linktr.ee/310Threeten
